Is it a one man shop? If it is, then I can see the higher price, as he can ensure higher quality and tighter tolerances.

From my understanding, TPD is a very small set-up. Maybe not a 1 man shop, but just a few employees. Understand that I'm not really trying to stick up for the guy. I don't even know him. The only contact I've had is thru a few emails. I bought my AXR used (lightly). I just love the product and don't want to see him shut down.

I think some folks just won't buy it if it doesn't say Steyr on the receiver. Sad but true. Some people could care less about the functionality and utility of the rifle and just want to have "the best," or what I would call a "prestige" item. I should say, what they consider to be the "best." Not that that necessarily makes it the best.
On another note, I wouldn't mind if you were sticking up for him. If you like his product, and believe in it, then I say stick up for him!! Just because I don't own one doesn't mean I can't respect the quality or hard work that goes into fabricating one.

I spoke with Kent last fall about a new AXR.
Other then waiting on parts, that's about all he said.
I can't stand people that munch on Potato Chips while talking on the phone.
It seemed a little inconsiderate, that said, I do hope he sticks around.

I've never shot an actual Steyr, but it seems to me that the AXR is a very nice alternative to an A3 at a cheaper price. Either way, I wish him the best of luck.

2 points;
I recently (3-15-10) got an email from Kent. I was inquiring about a receiver alone (for my AUG) he responded that he is currently building a few rifles at a time.
Second, I thought the AXR was $2200 (web site price). How's that cheaper than an AUG/A3?

Guess I should fact check before I post. I thought that the $2200 price was for the initial 100 special edition packages with the case, optic, 5 mags, yada, yada. I had read somewhere that a rifle alone with 1 mag would be around $1600. AUG A3's retail for around $2000, right?

I found 6 A3's on Guns America that ranged from $1800 to $2000. Not to mention that the AXR comes with a NATO stock allowing you to use cheap M16 mags. That's about $325 worth of upgrade over the A3 according to PJ's website. I guess the only thing I'm wrong about is the price on the AXR, but still pretty close and with a milled receiver...just sayin'
